Baseball Game Preview: Baldwin Indians vs. Union County Fightin' Tigers

The Baldwin Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Union County Fightin' Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Baldwin is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

On Thursday, Baldwin came up short against Oakleaf and fell 8-3.

Mason Williams made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Meanwhile, Union County scored first but ultimately less than Lafayette in their matchup on Thursday. They fell 11-7 to the Hornets. The defeat continues a trend for the Fightin' Tigers in their meetings with the Hornets: they've now lost seven in a row.

Erick Lasseter was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Kendall Carter was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

Even though they lost, Union County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Baldwin's record is now 7-7. As for Union County, their record is now 8-4.

Baldwin came out on top in a nail-biter against Union County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baldwin since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
