Basketball Recap: Durham Academy Comes Up Short

Durham Academy and Charlotte Country Day School squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Durham Academy had to settle for second. They came up short against the Charlotte Country Day School Buccaneers, falling 59-33. The Cavaliers just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Despite the loss, Durham Academy still got an impressive performance from Rashyia 'Shy' Williams, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. The match was Williams' third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sasha Bilsborrow, who posted seven points.

Even though they lost, Durham Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Sam Vanderhave continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Charlotte Country Day School, going 9-for-19 to rack up 22 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Vanderhave has become a key player for Charlotte Country Day School: the team is 14-3 when she posts at least three steals, but 6-7 otherwise. Olive Bigham was another key player, going 6-for-7 en route to 12 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Durham Academy's loss dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season.

Durham Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 73-47 defeat against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee on the 14th.
