Basketball Recap: La Cueva Piles Up the Points Against Capital

La Cueva lost to Capital back in January of 2016, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The La Cueva Bears simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Capital Jaguars 83-48. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Jaguars are ranked 55th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tony Trujillo had a dynamite game for La Cueva, going 7 of 9 on his way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Bramlett, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 14 points.

La Cueva smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

La Cueva has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.7 points per game. As for Capital, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.

La Cueva wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-49 defeat against Santa Fe on the 30th. Capital has also already played their next game, a 60-50 win against Manzano on the 30th.
