Baseball Recap: Tombstone Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Tombstone won against San Miguel on Friday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets blew past the Phoenix Christian Cougars 15-5. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by eight runs or more this season.

DJ Elias made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Tombstone got a massive performance out of Erik Koehler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Rincon, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Tombstone was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are undefeated (11-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win (which was Tombstone's third in a row) raised their record to 14-5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Phoenix Christian, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tombstone will square off against Desert Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.08 runs per game on average), something the Yellow Jackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Phoenix Christian, they will take on Scottsdale Preparatory Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
