Baseball Game Preview: Foundation Academy Lions vs. Tavares Bulldogs

The Foundation Academy Lions will head out to face off against the Tavares Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Foundation Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Tavares' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Foundation Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Bishop Moore on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-3 to the Hornets, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Michael Surane was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, Foundation Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Badua, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Tavares was a bit more limited in their contest last Thursday. They lost 11-1 to Lake Minneola.

Jamarcus Pugh made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

Tavares has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. Foundation Academy's record is now 7-5.

Foundation Academy skirted past Tavares 6-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Foundation Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
