Basketball Recap: East Fairmont Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Southern

East Fairmont is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Southern. The East Fairmont Bees were dealt a 70-41 defeat at the hands of the Southern Rams. The Bees' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, East Fairmont still got an impressive performance from Kailee Haymond, who posted 19 points. With that strong performance, Haymond is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Emma Moore was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Southern was led to victory by Carly Wilt and Jayden Weaver. Wilt went 6 of 11 en route to 18 points and six boards, while Weaver went 6 for 11 on her way to 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Weaver is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emelee Parks, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 13 points.

East Fairmont's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4. As for Southern, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1.

East Fairmont has already played their next match, a 72-37 win against Buckhannon-Upshur on the 22nd. As for Southern, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-36 victory against Allegany on the 23rd.
