Baseball Recap: Sylmar Victorious

Sylmar posted their closest victory since March 27th on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Legacy Tigers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Spartans also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.

Victor Espinoza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Timothy Sepulveda, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Sylmar has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Legacy, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Sylmar will face off against Roosevelt at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 1.7, the Rough Riders 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Legacy, they will take on North Hollywood at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers are facing the Huskies at the right time seeing as the Huskies are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
