Football Recap: Daingerfield Piles Up the Points Against Hughes Springs

Daingerfield came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.6 points), and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 72-16 victory over the Hughes Springs Mustangs. Considering the Tigers have won three games by more than 49 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Isaiah Parker was his usual excellent self, throwing for 280 yards and five touchdowns on only 16 passes, while also rushing for 55 yards. His passing game has become a key predictor of Daingerfield's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Ashton Williams was another key player, rushing for 129 yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Daingerfield was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 333 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Daingerfield's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Williams and Tanner Teeter, who racked up six sacks between them.

Daingerfield's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Hughes Springs, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, Daingerfield and Hughes Springs will both be playing New Boston the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will host the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on the 31st, while the Tigers will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on November 7.
