Basketball Recap: Cloudcroft Takes a Loss

Cloudcroft lost against Dexter last Thursday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cloudcroft Bears took a hard 62-48 fall against the Dexter Demons. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Cloudcroft lost, don't look at Rylee Pahl. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Pahl's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Cuilla, who posted six points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Cloudcroft smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

Dexter was led to victory by Cj Granados and Matthias Salas. Granados almost dropped a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds, while Salas went 11 of 25 en route to 24 points along with eight boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Salas a new career-high in points. Manny Calderon also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Cloudcroft's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Dexter, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.

Cloudcroft has already played their next game, a 49-40 loss against Mesilla Valley Christian School on the 28th. As for Dexter, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-29 defeat against Tularosa on the 4th.
