Softball Recap: Palmetto Drops Highest Score of Season Against South Dade

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palmetto). They put the hurt on the South Dade Buccaneers with a sharp 25-8 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Madeleine Baldwin was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Jessica Ortiz, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Baldwin wasn't the only one making solid contact: Palmetto kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The Panthers are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win (which was Palmetto's third in a row) raised their record to 8-11. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for South Dade, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-9.

Coming up, Palmetto will venture away from home to square off against Coral Reef at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Barracudas' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Dade, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Coral Gables at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Buccaneers are facing the Cavaliers at the right time seeing as the Cavaliers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
