Basketball Recap: Metter Takes a Loss

After soaring to 74 points the game before, Metter was a bit more limited in their match on Saturday. They were dealt a 66-30 defeat at the hands of the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 75th).

Jayden Ellis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for McIntosh County Academy, going 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and five steals. With that strong performance, Ellis is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Neo West, who posted three points in addition to nine assists and five boards.

Metter dropped their record down to 8-11 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for McIntosh County Academy, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-3.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Metter Tigers face off against the Portal Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for McIntosh County Academy, they will take on Savannah at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Savannah knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully McIntosh County Academy likes a good challenge.
