Basketball Recap: Athens Academy Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Athens Academy can now relate to. They took a 58-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lovett Lions. The Spartans' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Leading Lovett to victory were Cameron Cannon and Daniel Gadsden. Cannon posted 23 points and four steals, while Gadsden en route to 13 points along with five boards and four blocks. That's the most blocks Gadsden has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Casani Bartlett, who had four points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Athens Academy's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Lovett, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season.

Athens Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lovett, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 73-54 defeat against Mount Paran Christian on the 22nd.
