Softball Recap: Prout Takes Down Ranked Ponaganset

Prout faced Ponaganset in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Crusaders blew past the Chieftains 13-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Crusaders also won the last time the pair played back in June of 2022.

Megan Gardiner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Rachel Dias and Kelsea Flaherty did most of the damage at the plate: Dias went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Flaherty got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave Dias a new career-high.

Prout has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Ponaganset, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Prout will challenge rival Smithfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Ponaganset is set to take on their familiar foe Coventry at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
