Volleyball Recap: Mission Bay Buccaneers vs. Point Loma Pointers
Mission Bay was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Point Loma Pointers. The Buccaneers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pointers earlier this season, when they won 3-1.
Mission Bay actually scored more points across those five sets (102-100), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 15-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14.
Audie Caban paced Mission Bay's offense, picking up 21 kills. Caban got some help from Gianna Harder and her 19 assists. Caban was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.
Point Loma found their leader in sophomore Olivia Karvelis, who had 22 digs and four aces. Karvelis has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last ten times she's played.
Mission Bay's defeat dropped their record down to 18-14. As for Point Loma, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-11.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mission Bay is set to take on their familiar foe University City at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Point Loma will square off against rival La Jolla at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
