The Tindley Tigers are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Irvington Preparatory Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Tindley not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17, 2024 (when they won 15-5). They put the hurt on Indianapolis Washington with a sharp 15-5 win. Considering the Tigers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Clarence Shipp made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Shipp was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, Wilson Makori was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Caleb Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Tindley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Irvington Preparatory Academy hadn't done well against Indiana School for the Deaf recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Irvington Preparatory Academy was the clear victor by a 19-1 margin over Indiana School for the Deaf. The victory was nothing new for Irvington Preparatory Academy as they're now sitting on four straight.
Like Tindley, Irvington Preparatory Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Brayden Meredith. On the mound, Meredith tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Aiden Pollock struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Meredith got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Pollock went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That's the most runs Meredith has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Owen Kriech was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Cortez Jenkins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Irvington Preparatory Academy's record now sits at 4-2. As for Tindley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Tindley suffered a grim 29-3 defeat to Irvington Preparatory Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
