Soccer Recap: Greenwood Christian Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Greenwood Christian and Crescent pushed the score to 6-3 the last time they played Crescent, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Hawks never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. Given Greenwood Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Crescent are ranked 210th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Greenwood Christian's one-goal win came courtesy of Hampton Davis, who's now up to 24 this season.

The win made it two in a row for Greenwood Christian and bumps their season record up to 10-2. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two games. As for Crescent, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-13.

Looking ahead, Greenwood Christian is taking a road trip to challenge Spartanburg Christian Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Greenwood Christian are facing Spartanburg Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Spartanburg Christian Academy are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Crescent, they will take on West-Oak at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Crescent will be up against West-Oak's rather soft defense (which has allowed 4.9 goals per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
