Football Recap: Mt. Eden Comes Up Short

Mt. Eden's last matchup with Concord could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Friday. The Monarchs took a blow against the Bears, falling 41-14. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Monarchs, who fell 36-34 when the teams last met back in September of 2023.

A big part of Concord's victory came down to the chemistry between Juan Gonzalez and his top target Andrew Lopez. Gonzalez rushed for 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries while Lopez picked up 141 receiving yards and two scores. Lopez's longest reception was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Max Dashner was in the mix as well, providing Concord with one TD.

Mt. Eden's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Concord, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Mt. Eden will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Arroyo at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Concord, they will face off against Encinal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will be up against the Jets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
