Softball Recap: Leo Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Leo extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping them up to 12-3. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Bellmont Braves. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2025.

Leah Shappell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hope Douglas, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Clare Wallace was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Leo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

As for Bellmont, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Bellmont's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabelle Buuck, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Chevelle Oetting also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coming up, Leo will be playing at home against Woodlan at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Bellmont, they will head out to challenge New Haven at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
