Baseball Recap: Westview Gets the Win

Westview saw some tournament action on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Combs Coyotes.

Rodrigo Gaytan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. He has become a key player for Westview: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 4-10 otherwise. Gaytan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jordan Perez was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Westview is 5-1 when Perez posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Ramses Galindo was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

Westview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Westview's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Combs, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12-1 record this season.

Westview will head out to square off against Yuma at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Criminals' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Combs, they will welcome Eastmark at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Firebirds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.25 runs per game on average), something the Coyotes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
