Volleyball Recap: Upper Arlington Golden Bears vs. St. Edward Eagles
Upper Arlington faced St. Edward in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Golden Bears fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2. The Golden Bears just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.
In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Upper Arlington sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 14-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-8.
William Poth paced Upper Arlington's offense, picking up 22 kills. Poth got some help from Abhiram Busi and his 37 assists. Poth was also solid from the service line: he led the team with five aces.
St. Edward was led to victory by Davion Tan-Nguyen and Zach Libertosky. Tan-Nguyen had nine digs and two aces, while Libertosky had 31 digs and five assists. Those 31 digs gave Libertosky a new career-high. Siddeeq Sabur also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.
Upper Arlington's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for St. Edward, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 14-7.
Upper Arlington wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-1 win against Westerville North on the 5th. As for St. Edward, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against St. Vincent-St. Mary on the 6th.
