Softball Recap: Shorewood Comes Up Short

Shorewood was the 14-4 winner over Edmonds-Woodway when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Stormrays fell 5-1 to the Warriors on Monday. Stormrays fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Warriors since on Monday.

Ellie Van Horn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Maddie Schilperoort was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Shorewood and nudges their season record down to 8-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 Archbishop Murphy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75% over those games). As for Edmonds-Woodway, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shorewood will welcome Meadowdale at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Edmonds-Woodway, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Archbishop Murphy at 4:00 p.m. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
