Basketball Recap: Fairfax Piles Up the Points Against Central

Fairfax won the last time they faced Central and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Fairfax Stampede breezed past the Central Bobcats to the tune of 74-23. The Stampede have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 31 points or more this season.

Fairfax got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mel Romero out in front who posted 26 points and five steals. Romero has become a key player for Fairfax: the team is 9-2 when she posts at least 15 points, but 4-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ajana Kenyatta, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Fairfax and bumps their season record up to 13-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 18.0 points over those games. As for Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.

Looking ahead, Fairfax will challenge Carl Hayden Community at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fairfax is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season. As for Central, they will square off against Metro Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
