Basketball Recap: Speedway Sets Scoring Season-High Against Western Boone

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Speedway). They put the hurt on the Western Boone Stars with a sharp 67-45 win on Tuesday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Sparkplugs considering their 24-point performance the game before.

Speedway's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hayli Clampitt, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. Those 23 points gave Clampitt a new career-high. Macy DeLisle was another key player, putting up 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.

Speedway was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Western Boone saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ally Lewis dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Lewis. Isabella Fettig also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Speedway's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11. As for Western Boone, they dropped their record down to 7-12 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Speedway will face off against South Putnam at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Western Boone, they will square off against Danville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Danville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Western Boone likes a good challenge.
