Basketball Recap: Make It 12 in a Row for Concord Academy

Concord Academy came tearing into Thursday's game with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 47.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Gaston Day Spartans 69-5. With the Eagles ahead 44-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Concord Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justice Alexander, who went 9 of 14 en route to 21 points and seven steals. Alexander's evening made it 13 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Smith, who posted seven points in addition to ten steals and eight assists.

Concord Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Concord Academy's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-6. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.8 points per game. As for Gaston Day, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.

Concord Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gaston Day, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Metrolina Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
