Preview: Hillcrest Christian Cougars vs. Parklane Academy Pioneers
Hillcrest Christian has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. After both having extra time off, the Hillcrest Christian Cougars and the Parklane Academy Pioneers will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th. Hillcrest Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 257th, while Parklane Academy is ranked 80th).
On December 11th, Hillcrest Christian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-54 to Mt. Salus Christian.
Parklane Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 26 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped last Saturday as they easily beat Franklin County 61-26 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 31-10.
Parklane Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Halle Bennett out in front who scored 16 points. Zoe Alford was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Hillcrest Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Parklane Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.
Hillcrest Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Parklane Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2019, but they still walked away with a 38-34 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hillcrest Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
