The Skyline Falcons will head out to take on the Adams City Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Skyline is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Broomfield hit Skyline with a six-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-1.
Skyline saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Lanier, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Adams City made easy work of Overland on Thursday and carried off a 12-2 victory. Considering the Eagles have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Mauro Acosta spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Adams City got a massive performance out of Christian Ramirez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Ramirez has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jiovani Barajas, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Adams City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Overland only posted an OBP of .308.
Adams City has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Skyline, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Skyline has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Adams City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
