Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Gets the Win

Norfolk Catholic came into Saturday's match looking for another win against St. Mary, but Pyper Ickes wouldn't allow it. The St. Mary's Cardinals walked away with a 46-37 victory over the Norfolk Catholic Knights on Saturday thanks in part to Ickes, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave her a new career-high.

The team also got some help courtesy of Emerson Mlnarik, who posted seven points and three blocks. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played.

Norfolk Catholic's loss came despite strong showings from Sidonia Wattier and Kenzie Janssen. Wattier dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Janssen put up ten points and six rebounds.

St. Mary's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Norfolk Catholic, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Elgin/Pope John at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. As for Norfolk Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against Winnebago on Thursday. Norfolk Catholic is facing Winnebago at the right time seeing as Winnebago is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
