Recap: Academy for Classical Education Gryphons vs. Southwest Patriots
After a string of three wins, The Academy for Classical Education Gryphons''s good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Southwest. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (34), Academy for Classical Education still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Academy for Classical Education still got an impressive performance from Aaron Davis, who rushed for 181 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Davis really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Kaleb Scarbary was another key contributor, throwing for 253 yards and three touchdowns.
Southwest was led to victory by Carmelo Mays and Chase Dupree. Mays picked up 261 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while Dupree threw for 415 yards and seven touchdowns. Steve Robinson did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Academy for Classical Education's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Southwest, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Academy for Classical Education will be playing at home against Spencer at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. Spencer has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 189 points over their last four contests. As for Southwest, they will head out on the road to face off against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Central is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
