Carlsbad came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks by a score of 3-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Carlsbad had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-18, 26-24, 26-24.

La Costa Canyon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Olivia Lee, who had eight digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Pania Golestani, who had 19 digs and one assist.

Carlsbad's win bumped their record up to 15-4. As for La Costa Canyon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-11 record this season.

Carlsbad and La Costa Canyon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Lancers will challenge Sage Creek at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (77 vs. 515). Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon (ranked 215th) will meet San Dieguito Academy (ranked 472nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
