Baseball Recap: Palmview Takes a Loss

Palmview and Smithson Valley squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Palmview had to settle for second. They came up short against the Rangers, falling 8-2. The Lobos were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rangers earlier this season, when they won 7-0.

Mateo Garcia put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

Garcia wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Javier Garza, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

With the defeat, Palmview broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 26-9. As for Smithson Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-12 record this season.

While Palmview had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
