Baseball Recap: Downey Takes a Loss

If Downey was riding high fresh off their 13-7 takedown of Bellflower last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vikings fell just short of the La Mirada Matadores by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Matadores recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Eddie Causley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Roel Mercedes, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Downey's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-5. As for La Mirada, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.

While Downey had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
