Basketball Recap: Nixon-Smiley Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

If Karnes City wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Nixon-Smiley, they should've done a better job of containing Grace Gomez. The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs secured a 49-44 W over the Karnes City Badgers on Friday thanks in part to Gomez, who posted 12 points and five steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2024.

Nixon-Smiley's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-17. As for Karnes City, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season.

Nixon-Smiley will challenge Poth at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Poth will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Nixon-Smiley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Karnes City, they will face off against Stockdale at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
