The Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals will venture away from home to square off against the MacArthur Generals at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Warrensburg-Latham has 15 straight wins, MacArthur has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Warrensburg-Latham had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Central A & M on Friday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Warrensburg-Latham got a big performance out of Nathan Southern, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Evan Gottman was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Warrensburg-Latham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, MacArthur lost 12-2 to Springfield Southeast on Wednesday.
MacArthur saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Bruce, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Warrensburg-Latham's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for MacArthur, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
MacArthur's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Warrensburg-Latham has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. It's a different story for MacArthur, though, as they've only averaged .326. Will they be able to contain Warrensburg-Latham's hitters?
Everything went Warrensburg-Latham's way against MacArthur in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Warrensburg-Latham made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
