Baseball Game Preview: Massabesic Mustangs vs. Westbrook Blue Blazes

The Massabesic Mustangs will face off against the Westbrook Blue Blazes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Massabesic has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Massabesic couldn't beat Kennebunk on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Mustangs fell 12-7 to the Rams. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Massabesic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Judd Rand, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. That hit was Rand's first of the season. Noah Bryan was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Westbrook didn't have quite enough to beat Deering on Thursday and fell 5-4.

Jason McCarthy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, Connor Girard was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Tardif, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Westbrook's loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Massabesic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4-1.

Massabesic took their win against Westbrook when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Blue Blazes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
