Preview: Roger Bacon Spartans vs. Purcell Marian Cavaliers
The Roger Bacon Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Purcell Marian Cavaliers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Roger Bacon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Monday.
Last Monday, Roger Bacon came up short against Cincinnati Country Day and fell 43-34. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Roger Bacon in their matchups with Cincinnati Country Day: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite their defeat, Roger Bacon saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gussie Hoffman, who scored seven points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Riley Rolfert, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Purcell Marian waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with 13 straight wins but they left with 14. They blew past Summit Country Day, posting a 84-46 win at home. Purcell Marian has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 35 points or more this season.
Roger Bacon's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Purcell Marian, their win was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-1.
Roger Bacon was dealt a bruising 71-33 defeat at the hands of Purcell Marian when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Roger Bacon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
