Softball Game Preview: Opelousas Catholic Vikings vs. St. Edmund Fighting Blue Jays

Opelousas Catholic has gone a perfect 5-0 against St. Edmund recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Vikings will host the Fighting Blue Jays at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Opelousas Catholic has four straight wins, St. Edmund has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Opelousas Catholic made easy work of David Thibodaux and carried off a 14-2 victory. Considering the Vikings have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ashley Little was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Opelousas Catholic got a big performance out of Grace Luna, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Madison Ludeau was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Opelousas Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as David Thibodaux only posted an OBP of .250.

Meanwhile, St. Edmund started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Sacred Heart. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans on Tuesday.

Opelousas Catholic's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for St. Edmund, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Everything went Opelousas Catholic's way against St. Edmund when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Opelousas Catholic made off with a 20-0 win.
