Football Recap: Calipatria Hornets vs. Coastal Academy Stingrays
With a playoff game on the line, Calipatria rose to the challenge on Thursday. They took down the Coastal Academy Stingrays 44-25. Calipatria's victory was all the more impressive since the Stingrays were averaging only 12.15 points allowed on the season.
Cedric Smith and Zac Garland certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Smith picked up 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Garland threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Smith is becoming a predictor of Coastal Academy's success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).
The win made it two in a row for Calipatria and bumps their season record up to 9-2. As for Coastal Academy, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-3.
