Football Recap: Mountain View Falls Short Against Ranked Red Mountain + How To Watch

Mountain View faced Red Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Toros and the Mountain Lions were almost perfectly matched up, but the Toros suffered a 23-22 defeat. The Toros were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mountain Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Mountain View's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Goodman, who threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 68 yards and one score. The Toros' leading receiver Zachary Galaviz was Goodman's top target yet again, picking up 106 receiving yards and one TD.

Even if they lost, Mountain View's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Preston Patterson, Cannon Raban, and Zach Bingham, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Red Mountain's side was Patterson, who picked up a sack and made 12 total tackles.

A big part of Red Mountain's win came down to the chemistry between Dominic Carmigiano and his top target Airreon Windom. Carmigiano threw for 164 yards and one touchdown while completing 73.9% of his passes while Windom picked up 96 receiving yards and one score. Those 96 receiving yards gave Windom a new career-high.

Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Red Mountain, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.

Coming up, Mountain View will venture away from home to challenge ALA - Queen Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Red Mountain, they will host Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mountain Lions will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 35.88 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
