Basketball Recap: Katelyn Ryan Key Part of Team Effort in Lakers Win

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last seven times Lakeland and Prairie Heights have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Lakers managed a 36-31 win over the Panthers. The Lakers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

Lakeland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Katelyn Ryan, who shot 86% from the field on her way to 13 points. Those 13 points gave Ryan a new career-high. Zoey Bowman was another key player, putting up five points in addition to nine boards and eight assists.

Prairie Heights' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Certain, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sydney Lehman also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Lakeland now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Prairie Heights, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Lakeland is set to square off against their familiar foe Central Noble at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Prairie Heights will challenge rival Garrett at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.
