The Boulder Panthers will square off against the Riverdale Ridge Ravens at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Boulder is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Boulder took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Prairie View, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Thunderhawks on Tuesday. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Panthers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Kai Paradise looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Skubic, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Riverdale Ridge got the win against Westminster on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-2. Considering the Ravens have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Carter Wilkerson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has become a key player for Riverdale Ridge: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.
At the plate, Jeter McArthur was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Riverdale Ridge's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Peyton Auen, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Riverdale Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westminster only managed five.
Boulder's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Riverdale Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Boulder has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Riverdale Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Boulder might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Riverdale Ridge when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
