Basketball Game Preview: Capuchino Mustangs vs. Piedmont Highlanders

The Capuchino Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Piedmont Highlanders at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Capuchino knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Piedmont likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Capuchino beat Oceana 66-58.

Dominic Vanden Berghe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Christian Dimaano, who posted ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Piedmont's strategy against Novato on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Piedmont blew Novato out of the water with a 66-35 final score. Given the Highlanders' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while the Hornets are ranked 827th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Capuchino pushed their record up to 8-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Piedmont, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
