Softball Recap: Girard Takes a Loss

Girard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Conneaut Area Eagles. The Yellowjackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 12-9.

Danielle Suscheck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Cate Bennett was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Kilpatrick, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Girard's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Conneaut Area, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-13.

Girard didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-7 win against Conneaut on the 9th. As for Conneaut Area, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Erie on the 12th.
