Nelsonville-York extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Alexander Spartans. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Buckeyes' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Walker Stone made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Zach Richardson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
As for Alexander, the win got them back to even at 2-2. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Nelsonville-York: they've now won three in a row.
On Alexander's side, Michael McKibben was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. McKibben was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Connor Barnhouse looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Noah Ray, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Riley Abfall was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Nelsonville-York will square off against Millersport at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Buckeyes are facing the Lakers at the right time seeing as the Lakers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Alexander, they are taking a road trip to square off against Waterford at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
