Baseball Recap: Lake Wales Falls Short of Mount Dora in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lake Wales can now relate to. They fell 6-3 to the Mount Dora Hurricanes on Thursday. The Highlanders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hurricanes earlier this season, when they won 8-5.

Zach Stricklin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Lake Wales saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Welborn, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Lake Wales has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-17 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Dora, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season.

Lake Wales does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mount Dora, they will venture away from home to take on Bishop Moore at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hurricanes 3.9, the Hornets 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
