Softball Recap: La Jolla Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

La Jolla had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the High Tech SD Storm. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-7 back in April.

Natalie Alvarez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jerri Taylor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Roxanne Metcalf, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

La Jolla pushed their record up to 8-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for High Tech SD, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Jolla will face off against Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Hornets have now posted at least ten runs in their last six games. As for High Tech SD, they will head out to challenge Hoover at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
