Volleyball Recap: Fountain-Fort Carson Comes Up Short

If Fountain-Fort Carson was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Liberty last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans fell just short of the Doherty Spartans by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Fountain-Fort Carson actually scored more points across those five sets (109-102), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 13-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-12.

Riley O'Hara paced Fountain-Fort Carson's offense, picking up 14 kills. O'Hara got some help from Michelle Sparks and her 27 assists. Reyanna Somerville controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Doherty found their leader in freshman Isabella Tessier, who had 19 assists and five digs. Those 19 assists set a new season-high mark for Tessier. Emily O'Neal also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Fountain-Fort Carson's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Doherty, their win ended a four-match drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-5.

Fountain-Fort Carson has already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Pueblo West on the 25th. As for Doherty, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Pine Creek on the 30th.
