Basketball Recap: West Plains Takes a Loss

West Plains lost against Republic back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The West Plains Zizzers took a 55-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Republic Tigers.

Despite the defeat, West Plains saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gillian Green dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Green has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ainsley McWilliams, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, West Plains smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

West Plains has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Republic, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

West Plains will challenge Rolla at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Plains is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.3 points per game this season. As for Republic, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lebanon at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th.
