Softball Recap: Paris Takes a Loss

Paris had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-11 to make it four. They came up short against the Marshall Lions, falling 12-3. The Tigers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Lions from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Paris saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacie Young, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Kayleigh Miller was another, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Marshall, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-3. Considering they have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Marshall's side, Haley McGuire made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). McGuire has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lynn Welborn was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was McKenzie Davis, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Paris wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-1 loss against Tolono Unity on the 18th. As for Marshall, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-7 defeat against Newton on the 21st.
