Basketball Recap: Carbondale Takes a Loss

If Carbondale was riding high fresh off their 63-29 takedown of Paducah Tilghman last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Carbondale Terriers were outmatched by the Mt. Vernon Rams and fell 68-40. The matchup marked the Terriers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

It was another big night for Melaina Zedalis, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds for Mt. Vernon. Zedalis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Josie Shirley, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and three steals.

Carbondale's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3. As for Mt. Vernon, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carbondale will welcome Hamilton County at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hamilton County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season. As for Mt. Vernon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cahokia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
