It was fun while it lasted, but River Oaks's undefeated season came to an end after 20 games on Tuesday. They took a 68-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hillcrest Christian Cougars. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 61-53.

Jaivyn Carter was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds for Hillcrest Christian. That's the most points Carter has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordan Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

River Oaks' defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 20-1. As for Hillcrest Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. River Oaks will host Porter's Chapel Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. River Oaks knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Porter's Chapel Academy likes a good challenge. As for Hillcrest Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Prairie View Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Hillcrest Christian has won four straight at home, while Prairie View Academy won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
